How to read your newsletter picks
Why a newsletter was picked for you, what "sponsor proof" means, and what to do with a pick.
Your picks on Home are newsletters Radar thinks are a good place for your business to sponsor. Radar sorts them using two things, in this order: fit first, then sponsor proof.
Fit: are these readers your customers?
Fit is about the people who read the newsletter. Radar compares what the newsletter writes about and who reads it with the customers in your business profile. If you sell to marketers, a newsletter read by marketers fits better than one read by doctors.
Each pick shows a short reason in plain words, so you can see why it was chosen and judge it yourself.
Sponsor proof: do companies pay to be here?
Sponsor proof is what Radar has actually seen: which companies sponsored this newsletter, how many times, and how recently. It matters because companies rarely keep paying for ads that do not work.
- Repeat sponsors are the strongest sign. If a company sponsored the same newsletter five times, it is probably getting results.
- Companies like yours sponsoring it is a good sign the audience suits you too.
- Recent sponsorships show the newsletter is selling ads right now.
What to do with a pick
- Open the pick to see the newsletter page: what it covers, who reads it, its past sponsors and the exact issues they appeared in.
- Save it to your Shortlist if it looks promising.
- Find how to contact them. The newsletter page shows the ways to reach the publisher about sponsoring, when Radar knows them.
- Ask for prices and dates, then note what you hear on your Shortlist.
Common questions
- Why do I see a newsletter I would never sponsor?
- Usually because your business profile is too broad. With Radar Lab Pro, make it more specific in Settings → Business profile and Radar will re-run your picks.
- Do picks change over time?
- Yes. As Radar reads new issues and records new sponsors, picks can move. Pro users see these changes on Updates and in the Weekly Radar Brief.
- Does a pick mean the newsletter will accept my ad?
- No. A pick is a suggestion based on data. You still need to contact the publisher and agree on a deal.
